Attendees: Lyle KØLFV, Doug WØDWB, Ron KØGOP, Al WØRC, Shirley KØDCW, Mitch ADØHJ, Mark KEØLFQ and Terry KIØFW. The Vice President opened the Board Meeting at 4:15 PM.

Secretary’s Report: 

  • Membership roster: 68 members with 52 paid for 2019 (as of membership meeting close). The Club roster can be found on the Club website under the “Resources/Members Only” area. Current paid members can request an individual password for access via the “Contact Us” form.
  • Minutes: There was no Board or Membership Meeting in May in lieu of the BAARC Spring Dinner. 
  • Correspondence: None.
  • Documents: None.
  • Membership ID’s: 1 new Club ID.
  • Motion to accept: Al WØRC, Second Lyle KØLFV, Passed. 

Treasurer’s Report:

  • The Treasurer presented the April report forwarded to the board showing all month’s account transactions and balances to date. The Spring Dinner receipts have never fully covered costs for this annual night out, but the recent May event showed a more modest shortfall than years prior.
  • The Brainerd Armory site will be unavailable for the next 1-2 years due to extensive remodeling plans. Al WØRC reported that he has found a new venue at the Brainerd High School cafeteria, with ample space, and lower site fees.

Membership Meeting Programs: 

  • The Vice President reviewed recent and future Club programs and events. 
  • May 23: “BAARC Spring Dinner” at American Legion, Nisswa: “Forestview High Altitude Balloon Class/ Toshiba NYC presentation” by teachers Jim Reed and Cory Olson.
  • July 25: “Field Day Recap” Need alternate location for 4PM Board Meeting.
  • September 26: “Member Show and Tell”.

NWS Duluth “SKYWARN Spotter Class”

  • Tuesday, April 9, 2019, 2pm & 6pm, Crow Wing County Land Services Building, Brainerd, MN
  • An appreciation plaque was presented to retiring NWS-Duluth meteorologist and fellow Ham, Carol Christenson KCØMAK. The plaque was laser engraved and donated by Club member, Tom KTØMMY.

Digital & Emergency Communications: 

  • “PulsePoint” alerting system was discussed, alerting nearby registered emergency responders to a “CPR event”.

Old Business:  

  • The Club will offer unused/surplus gear from the storage unit to members for a small donation. This will coincide with a Club Meeting or Breakfast in the near future.

Club Repeaters Status:

Gull Lake:

  • Looking ahead to finishing outdoor cabling work as weather improves.
  • No new items.
    Crow Wing Power:
  • No new items.
    Cross Lake:
  • No new items.
    High-rise Site:
  • No new items.

New Business:

  • The Secretary will complete a design for an appreciation plaque for Scott Goddard, CWC Sheriff, and John Bowen CWC Emergency Management Director and submit to Tom KTØMMY who has generously offered to laser-engrave for the Club. 
  • Other venues for future Spring Dinner events were discussed. Among these were the Last Turn Saloon in Brainerd and Pizza Ranch in Baxter. The Pizza Ranch option seemed most favorable with it’s wide menu choices, free room, and no reservations required.
  • The sometimes low turnout of Club workers for events was discussed. Strategies for encouraging greater member involvement are being considered, along with our changing role as communicators with some long-established events like the Ice-Fishing Extravaganza transitioning to other, non-ham, communication options.

The Board Meeting was adjourned at 4:55 PM.


  • The Vice President called the meeting to order at 7:10 PM with 17 members and guests present. Following the business meeting, several member presentations were made:
  • The October meeting date will be changed to October 24, 2019.
  • Field Day Presentations by Lyle KØLFV, Mitch ADØHJ and Ron KØGOP.
