Antenna Design and Characteristics
The Brainerd Area Amateur Radio Club May 1999 club presentation was given by Past Club President Brian Wermager, KØEOU. Brian has been a ham most of his life and one of his strong points is antennas.
Brian explained how HF antennas should be at least a half wavelength above the ground or multiples of a half wavelength above the ground in order to put a radiation lobe as close to the horizon as possible. He presented graphs showing radiation patterns and how they are affected by antenna height as well as beam element spacing.
