VHF DX'ing
RJ Savey, AAØRJ, gave a presentation on VHF DX'ing at the March 1999 club meeting . He is shown here with a two meter horizontal halo antenna that he uses on his car. RJ is a retired U.S. Army Sergeant and recently moved to Brainerd from Oklahoma. He is a high pointer in DX contests and is often listed in QST for his efforts.
RJ explained that horizontal polarization is used by DX'ers because it has less noise than vertical polarization that is typically used for local communcations on two meters. He went on to say that high power, high gain antennas, and CW are often used to get contacts from 600 or more miles away.
