The Brainerd Area Amateur Radio Club held a regular monthly business meeting on July 25th at 7 PM at Central Lakes College in Brainerd.
|
The 8:10 PM presentation was on building RF attenuators for fox hunting. It was given by BAARC Past President Mark WØMH. Mark explained how the average ham receiver has an S (signal strength) meter that displays only 0.2 to 2 microvolts of input signal. Usually the signal level is above 2 microvolts when the fox transmitter and the fox hunter are within a mile of each other. To make it possible for the hunter to find the fox, the signal must be reduced to less than 2 microvolts. RF attenuators are needed here. Mark showed the audience how to build an attenuator for just a few dollars. The discussion included techniques for being a successful fox hunter. Everyone had a great time. |
