New WØJGY Mobile June 1, 2007

John WØJGY recently traded in his Ford Explorer for a new Ford F150 Pickup truck with topper.  He added a High Sierra HF-1800 160 to 6 meter motor-driven screwdriver antenna on the left rear bumper.  It takes 108 second to go from one end of the coil to the other.

What is unique is that he used a tilt-over mount on the whip antenna so it could go into his garage and through car washes.  If you look carefully, you can see it in the horizontal position.

To make best use of the antenna, he mounted it high above the bumper.

On the top, you can see that John installed a Kenwood D700 FM Dual-Band VHF/UHF Transceiver.  It is coupled to a Garmin 276C GPS receiver for APRS operation.

At the bottom is an Icom IC-7000 All-Band Transceiver that covers 70 cm to 160 meters.  On the upper right is the screwdriver motor control unit.

The radio mount swivels so radios can be accessed from four seats in the vehicle.  Another idea that John likes is having speakers separated and on opposite sides of the car so he can tell which radio the sound is coming from.

Good going, John!
