Greetings from "The Friendly Voice of Huntersville." Weather has been a topic on everyone's agenda with the usual thunder storms rolling through the Lakes Area and beyond. It is not unusual to find 2 plus inches in my rain gauge after one of our legendary thunderstorms!
Those of you that read this effort of mine each month are aware of my passion for DXing. It is the part of this hobby of ours that intrigues me the most so let me bring you up-to-date on my DX activities as the month of July goes into it's 2nd week. My newly installed 'duo' mono bander continues to bust the pileups into Europe and beyond. I have affectionately named the new beam "El Gordo", which translates to "large one" in Spanish. The new beam has brought me several new countries and hopefully some new QSL cards. The list includes Lebanon, Belarus, Bulgaria and a tiny Island north of Nova Scotia with the call of CY9. St. Paul Island is an entity and credited for DXCC, IOTA and LHOTA, a rare find for this station.
The BAARC Hamfest for this year is now history. I want to thank all of those Club members who worked so hard all year to help make this important fund raiser successful once again. Thanks especially to those of you on the food service committee: Sharon KBØSQX, Orcy WØQT, and Bob KGØZK. Thanks gang we couldn't have done it without you. Cactus Bob's outrageous chile bowl sold out before the "fest" was over with. Just goes to show you that folks in the northland really do appreciate western cuisine and a little western hospitality. Please tell "yer" friends and neighbors, we'll be back again next year.
Before going QRT for the month of July, I would like to pass along this interesting observation as seen on the headstone of a famous comedian, George Goble: "He was here at a good time and had a good time while he was here"...this say's it all!!!
So long from Huntersville, 73 and good DX
