The National Weather Service has a 1000 watt weather broadcast transmitter site near Leader, MN.  The transmitter is programmed by the Duluth office of the National Weather Service and serves the Brainerd lakes area.  It is heard on 162.550 MHz with the same +/- 5 KHz FM modulation scheme that 2 meter and 70 CM ham transceivers use.  Many 2 meter rigs have the ability to tune the weather channels now.  Dedicated weather receivers should be tuned to Channel 1 to pick up this one.
