Starting with a number of ceremonies and ending with a walk around the "track" lighted with approximately 2000 candle luminaries, it is an all night affair, starting at about 1900 and ending at 0700, with various event taking place during the period, including fireworks, band presentations, contests and the walkers.

The project, as far as the BAARC is concerned, involves shadowing certain committee members, to assure they were contactable when needed, watching for out of the ordinary activities and reporting to appropriate committee members for them to take the necessary action for correction.
This year's event involved several young boys who decided they would start fires on the bags, which contained the luminaries. By utilizing the five hams present, we exhibited a presence that drew praise from the committee members and resulted in the catching of the culprits and eliminating the unnecessary fires. Actually, we had sufficient fires from the candles without outside help. By splitting the time into increments, including one of 6 hours and two of 4 hours each, we were able to control the event as we had been requested and, upon completion receive the solid complimentary comments from the Relay Staff. Actually, they were having difficulty in understanding the effectiveness and versatility of the hams involved.
Participating in this year's event were the following members of the BAARC: Alan, AAØAS; Glenn, KCØGFD; Jon, KBØMNM; Eldon, WØMQO; Paula, WØHA; George, KCØBH; John, W3MQD, Terry, KIØFW, John, WØJGY; and Ken, KAØJSW. My personal thanks to all participating and who took up the slack when called to do so. You're the cream of the crop and took up the slack when required.
