Brainerd Area Amateur Radio
Club
January 25, 2001 Meeting
The Brainerd Area Amateur Radio Club met at the Mississippi Horizons School on Thursday, January 25th. The business meeting started at 7 PM.
The 8:10 PM presentation was given by Club President Al WØRC. He talked about J-REX 2000, which was a joint regional practice exercise. recently completed in the Twin Cities. It started as a bio-terrorist attach in which a lot of people got sick. The Twin Cities hospitals had to discharge or relocate a lot of patients to make room for the bio-patients. The Air Force and Air Guard flew people to hospitals in six other cities. This was a communications nightmare. Navy-Marine Corp MARS set up an auxiliary radio team (ART) at the airport to handle long haul communications. Several other cities also had ART teams at the airport as well. The ARTs reported wheels down and up at the various airports.
