Brainerd Area Amateur Radio Club
May 31, 2001 Summer Dinner Meeting

The Brainerd Area Amateur Radio Club met Thursday May 31st, 6PM - 8PM in the back room at the Bonanza Restaurant on Highway 371 north in Baxter.  This was the annual Summer Dinner for the club and it was attended by 41 people.
The presentation was given by Jay Blake who is a Senior Planner for Dahlgren, Shardlow, and Ugan of St. Cloud.  His company was hired to help understand area growth patterns, make projections, and plan the highway 371 corridor.  His presentation was a fascinating one. He explained how Crow Wing County, Cass County, the Minnesota Department of Transportation, and cities along Highway 371 from Little Falls to Cass Lake, are working together to plan the future of the area.

It appears that the highway will be widened to four lanes of traffic from Little Falls to Brainerd in the next two years.  It should be four lanes from Brainerd to Pine River by the year 2006.

Appearance of property adjacent to the highway is a major concern.  Housing development planning is high on the list of items which need to be handled by all communities along the route.

Orcena Lyle WØQT won the door prize which was a weather radio.

Dinner planning was handled by   Jim Shubert  KCCANQ
