Brainerd Area Amateur Radio Club

Baxter Triathlon August 28,  2005

The Brainerd Area Amateur Radio Club participated in the Lakes Country Triathlon event by helping the Triathlon staff track and communicate the status of participants doing the bike and run portion. This has become an annual event starting and finishing at Whipple Beach which is located in Baxter. The race begins with a ½-mile swim in Whipple Lake, then switches to a 17-mile bike ride through the rolling hills surrounding the Baxter-Brainerd Lakes Area. It ends with a four-mile run through a nearby residential area.

A special thanks to Jim WØIRE, Dave KCØTGT, and Skee WØDCY for doing a great job in the communication and tracking of event participants. Lyle KØLFV handled Net Control. Dave KCØTGT was in the Sag-Wagon. He had the responsibility to follow the last bikers around the course and report updates on positions and/or problems. Jim WØIRE was stationed at the run turn-around point and also communicated updates on how the runners were doing. Skee WØDCY was at his home QTH monitoring Baxter Public Service and weather, reporting to Net Control any significant activity. No problems and/or issues were noted this year with our involvement being uneventful. The weather turned out to be perfect for this and we all had an enjoyable time being involved.
