Jack was born and raised in St. Paul.  He graduated from Humboldt High School in 1955.  Jack became a body shop manager.  In 1962, he went to work for the American Empire Insurance Company as a claims adjuster.  During this time, he became a member of the Ramsey County Sheriff's Department Reserve Unit.  In 1967, he was hired full time as a guard at the Ramsey County Jail and St. Paul Ramsey Hospital.  He was then promoted to the Patrol Division as a patrolman.  He worked in that division for 24 years.  During the last 13 years he was a K9 handler.  Seven of those years were in the Water Patrol.  He was also an Explorer Scout Advisor.  Jack retired in March of 1993.  He then signed on with the Sheriff's Water Patrol as a reserve.

Jack, and his wife Bonnie, have 3 grown children and 11 grandchildren at last count.  The couple moved to Crosslake, MN, and built a new home on property they purchased in 1985.

Jack's interest in Ham Radio began in 1949, but he did not pursue it.  Jack's brother Keith AGØH tried for years to get him into the hobby.  Finally Jack contacted Fritz Bertelt WØKO in March of 1999 only to find out that local classes, sponsored by the Brainerd Area Amateur Radio Club, were just wrapping up.  He waited until the next February to take the class.  The instructor was Dan Selinger AAØNK.  Jack received his Technician class license (KCØKIB) in April 2000.  He took another class in March 2001, taught by Al Doree WØRC, and received his General class license in April 2001.  He applied for and got the call WØJEM, which has his initials in the suffix.  Jack was elected Vice President of the Brainerd Area Amateur Radio Club and started serving in January 2004.

Jack's phone number is 218-543-6357.  E-mail: jackmil at uslink.net (replace the at with the familiar "@" sign.)  This is called "munging" the e-mail address in the posting so that "spam harvesters" can't recognize it as an e-mail address.
