KØGOP, Ron Finger, is Secretary for the Club and a member since February 2009. As a teen in southern Wisconsin, a Ham friend of his older sister encouraged an early interest in electronics by giving him several military surplus "boat anchors" with which to tinker. His friend Ozzie, was active in MARS and the recently decommissioned Truax Field AAB in Madison provided some interesting finds! Although he didn't get the Ham bug right away, he pursued a degree in electrical engineering at the UW-Stevens Point. Studying art as a minor, he later swapped his minor for the major and finished with a degree in Illustration & Graphic Design at the Minneapolis College of Art & Design in 1978. In the 20 years prior to his move to Brainerd in 1998, he remained an avid electronics hobbyist while enjoying a career in illustration. His business, REDPINE, kept him and his graphic designer wife, Jan busy for another 10 years, raising their enlarged family of 7 till the Ham bug finally bit hard. He enjoys working with fellow Club members in both the technical and community service activities of Amateur Radio and holds a General Class license.
