Classes, designed to aid students in becoming licensed Amateur Radio Operators (Hams), began on Tuesday, September 28th and will continue on
Tuesdays, weekly through November 16th, 1999 through the auspices of the Brainerd Area Amateur Radio Club (BAARC) and School District #181, in Room 603 of the Mississippi Horizons School at 300 Quince Street,
Brainerd.
Subjects to be covered include: FCC rules, radio wave propagation, basic electronic principles, circuit components and practical circuits,
amateur radio circuits and emissions, radio frequency safety, Morse code, selecting equipment and choosing an antenna, assembling and operating a station and more. Periodically, some BAARC members will be
invited in to demonstrate specific subject material.
Following the completion of the class, a Federal Communications Commission test session will be conducted for the purpose of qualifying the student for a Ham Radio License. Since that session is separate
from the actual class, there is a fee, in the amount of $6.45, that must be forwarded with the test results, to the American Radio Relay League. Several current Hams will serve as Volunteer Examiners, in the conduct
of the testing session, which will be held on 23 November, starting at 6:30 PM, also in Room 603 of the Mississippi Horizons School. This testing session will be open for anyone to wishing to take a test, whether it is
for a "first" license or to upgrade an existing license.
