Hunt story from 2001.
The fox transmitter was near the Mississippi Horizons School in a parking lot about 300 feet southeast of the BAARC station. You can see the club HF antenna in the upper left of the photo. |
On top of Terry's car is a surplus military ammunition box, which contains the fox transmitter. Mark and Paula used a 5 element Yagi antenna they constructed at a club meeting a few years back. It is mounted on a mast going through the sunroof of Paula's PT Cruiser. Mark and Paula had problem with their HT. It's sensitivity dropped dramatically after they transmitted on 2 meters using a 50 watt transceiver in the PT Cruiser. The transmit antenna and the fox hunt receive antenna were only about 3 feet apart at the time. After the contest and after further testing it was determined that the sensitivity problem was only temporary. The HT's receiver recovered, from the problem, after it's power was turned off and then back on.
Jim won using a two element hand held home built Yagi antenna. The weather was perfect for the event. The next Fox Hunt will be Saturday, August 3rd. Details Hope to see you there.
Terry KIØFW Club Fox Hunt Chairperson.
