Brainerd Area Amateur Radio Club

Club Meeting October 30, 2003

The Brainerd Area Amateur Radio Club held a regular monthly membership meeting at the Mississippi Horizons School.  About 25 hams attended.  Hugh Phillips, no callsign yet, showed up to find out what amateur radio is about.  Hugh was an on-air morning man on WJJY Radio (106.7 MHz) in Brainerd, MN. for many years until his recent retirement.  He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict as a CW operator handling 5 letter code groups called "fox" which were encrypted data transmissions.  Typical code speed was 30 to 35 words per minute.

Our next club meeting is November 20th.  This is one week earlier than normal because it would otherwise conflict with Thanksgiving.  The meeting will be held in Room 607 of the Mississippi Horizons School starting at 7 PM.  Hope to see you there.
