Brainerd Area Amateur Radio Club |
Club Meeting July 31, 2003 |
The July 31st BAARC Membership Meeting
was held at the Paul Bunyan Flying Club field south of Brainerd, MN.
While I arranged for the event, the original
idea was Shirley's. I
would like to thank Buzz Irvine, flying club president, and his
many pilot members and Northwood Hobby Shop for hosting the
BAARC membership meeting at their air field. There was a good turn out
from the Brainerd Area Amateur Radio Club,
the weather gods were good to us with party cloudy sky's and light
winds.
There were several fixed wing aircraft and several helicopters. Flights ranged from straight and level to aerobatics to inverted helicopter flights. Imagine how difficult it must be to hover a helicopter upside down a couple feet off the ground. There was also a student/master radio controller that allowed BAARC club members a chance to fly the airplanes on the student radio while the pilot had the master and could take control in the event the student got in trouble. Everyone on had a great time and flying club put on a great demonstration. |
There was a good turnout of hams from BAARC.
Most model airplanes are
controlled by transmitters running in the 72 MHz area. Here, Paul
Bunyan Flying Club President Buzz Irvine, gets his plane ready to
fly. There was no shortage of onlookers. Many BAARC members
were allowed to fly planes using a trainer transmitter that allowed the
regular pilot to take control back at a second's notice.
The flying club meets on the third Tuesday of every month during the summer. |
There were plenty of model airplanes to see.
This model helicopter was able to fly inverted (upside down) for an extended period of time. Great stuff for the spectators.
A "Classic Piper Cub"
model airplane. Great detail. Link to the Paul Bunyan Flying Club: http://home.comcast.net/~pbclub |
Jim Shubert KCØANQ, BAARC V.P. and Program Chairman. |
Hope to see you at the summer picnic/meeting on August 24th. |
