Brainerd Area Amateur Radio Club  

Club Membership Meeting....October 28, 2004

The October membership meeting of the Brainerd Area Amateur Radio Club was held at at the Mississippi Horizons School in Brainerd. 

At 8 PM, there was a talk on packet communications given by Orcena Lyle WØQT.  She explained that packets of digital information have been used for many years for DX Clusters, APRS, Data for public events, and e-mail.  More recently, Erik Westgard NY9D, created a the Minnesota Emergency Packet Network that now covers 75% of the population in the state.  More details at:  http://www.14567.org  

Orcena said that typical packet communications requires a VHF radio, a computer, and a TNC (Terminal Node Controller).  She demonstrated sending and receiving packet for the audience.

Our next club meeting is November 18th.  It is one week earlier than usual because of Thanksgiving.  Hope to see you there.
