Club Fox Hunt and Summer Picnic  Sunday, August 15, 2004

The fox hunters who showed up to hunt.  (l-r) Mark Persons WØMH, Skee Mass KCØDCY, Kathy Lord KØTHY, Lyle Koehler KØLR, John Luce WØJGY with his wife Terry (no callsign yet).  Then behind Terry is Greg Mass NØLJY, and Terry May KIØFW.

Arriving after the picture was taken were Orcy Lyle WØQT and Terry Johnson WØTRJ.

Fox hunters gathered at the Bang Printing parking lot just northwest of the intersection of State Highways 18 and 25.  At 10:00 AM, the hunters took off like jack rabbits.

Paula Persons WØHA hid the fox transmitter and handled the event.

And the winners were:  (l-r) Lyle Koehler KØLR who found the fox first in just 20 minutes.  He was followed by Mark Persons WØMH at 23 minutes and Kathy Lord KØTHY in 25 minutes total hunting time.  They were followed by successful hunters in this order: John Luce WØJGY with his wife Terry, Terry May KIØFW, Skee Mass KCØDCY, Greg Mass NØLJY, Terry Johnson KØTRJ, and Orcy Lyle WØQT.

Lyle showed off the antenna that helped him win first place in the contest.  It is a K9AY loop.  See:  http://www.hard-core-dx.com/nordicdx/antenna/loop/k9ay  Lyle took the original K9AY HF antenna design and made it work at 2-meters.

Mark used a five-element cubical quad and Kathy used a three-element Yagi with elements made of measuring tape.

Marv Holmes WØYHE was at the club picnic area working CW on 20-meters with his newly constructed Elcraft KX1 Transceiver which covers 20, 30, and 40 meters.  Marv used a home made vertical antenna, which is portable for these kinds of events.

Bob Feuer WØZPE was there cooking Salchicha Caballero (Spanish for Cowboy Sausage) from California for everyone to try.  He also cooked some bratwurst.  Both were excellent and were well received by club members.  Bob is sporting a DXCC emblem on his hat, which he is very proud of.  Congratulations Bob.

The Picnic went well and was followed by the monthly BAARC Membership Meeting.  A good time was had by all.
