Secretary’s Report: 

  • Membership roster: 69 members with 53 paid for 2019 (as of membership meeting close). The Club roster can be found on the Club website under the “Resources/Members Only” area. Current paid members can request an individual password for access via the “Contact Us” form.
  • Minutes: The June meeting minutes were posted to the club website.. 
  • Correspondence: None.
  • Documents: None.
  • Membership ID’s: 1 new Club ID.

  • The Treasurer presented the report forwarded to the board showing all month’s account transactions and balances to date.

Old Business:  

  • The Club will offer unused/surplus gear from the storage unit to members for a small donation. This will coincide with a Club Meeting or Breakfast in the near future.
  • Remote Base Station: Will leave at present location for now; working well.
  • Club information document: no activity to report.
  • Club Website: discussed stability, moving to a new server.
  • The Secretary will complete a design for an appreciation plaque for Scott Goddard, CWC Sheriff, and John Bowen CWC Emergency Management Director and furnish to Tom KTØMMY to laser-engrave for the Club.

Club Repeaters Status:

  • Gull Lake: Mitch was out there 2 weeks ago, will be installing ground strap and new connectors. Roger and Dan completed work on UHF duplexer. Nick and Mitch working on motherboards for new rack-mount PCs.
  • Crosby: No new items
  • Crow Wing Power: No new items.
  • Cross Lake: No new items.
  • High-rise Site: No new items.

New Business:

  • Following the Tailgate Hamfest, the treasurer will order an HRI-200 controller (($130) and pop-up awning (($118) from DX Engineering.
  • Discussion regarding replacing the old Club generator. MOTION: Sell old generator at Hamfest for $200 and purchase a new Honda 4KW inverter generator. Lyle/Al, Passed.

The President called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM with 25 members and guests present. Following the business meeting, the Club viewed a DVD presentation of DXpedition to South Sandwich and South Georgia Island “Back to the basics: small radios, antennas and generators; no more Mr. Kilowatt”

  • Minutes: There was no Board or Membership Meeting in May in lieu of the BAARC Spring Dinner.

Treasurer’s Report:

  • The Treasurer presented the April report forwarded to the board showing all month’s account transactions and balances to date. The Spring Dinner receipts have never fully covered costs for this annual night out, but the recent May event showed a more modest shortfall than years prior.
  • The Brainerd Armory site will be unavailable for the next 1-2 years due to extensive remodeling plans. Al WØRC reported that he has found a new venue at the Brainerd High School cafeteria, with ample space, and lower site fees.

  • The Secretary will complete a design for an appreciation plaque for Scott Goddard, CWC Sheriff, and John Bowen CWC Emergency Management Director and submit to Tom KTØMMY who has generously offered to laser-engrave for the Club. 
  • Other venues for future Spring Dinner events were discussed. Among these were the Last Turn Saloon in Brainerd and Pizza Ranch in Baxter. The Pizza Ranch option seemed most favorable with it’s wide menu choices, free room, and no reservations required.
  • The sometimes low turnout of Club workers for events was discussed. Strategies for encouraging greater member involvement are being considered, along with our changing role as communicators with some long-established events like the Ice-Fishing Extravaganza transitioning to other, non-ham, communication options.

  • The training will include: a brief introduction to the National Weather Service (NWS), the different types of hazardous weather and how to safely observe them, the categories of severe weather to report, and how to send those reports to the NWS.

  • Mitch ADØHJ introduced his invited guest, Jason KØTH from the St. Cloud Amateur Radio Club. Jason asked the board to consider Club involvement in a new event, “The 2019 Area-Wide Ripley Rendezvous”. The event is sponsored by the Boy Scouts of America, and will be held at Camp Ripley, May 17-19. Of interest to the possible 3000 scouts and leader attendees would be Club members demonstrating working setups profiling various Amateur Radio activities. These could include VHF, UHF analog/digital radio, HF-radio phone, CW and digital modes, and AMSAT portable radio. Involvement in these amateur radio activities would be one of many choices available to the scouts during the Saturday schedule. It was decided to try supporting this event and pass a sign-up sheet at the evening Membership Meeting.

This will be the last year of instruction from retiring meteorologist Carol Christenson KCØMAK.
  • No further updates on CWC-EOC remodeling progress.

Old Business: 
Repeater Sites: Mitch reported on MN Repeater Council approval for the new Club UHF pair of 443.925 MHz. This was a previous Club pair used for a portable UHF repeater in the old Club trailer, and now slated for use with a new Fusion Digital repeater installation at the Gull Lake site.

  • Club Fundraising Documents: Resuming work on fundraising efforts was discussed. The Secretary will refine his first draft of a Club information letter and send to the Board for comments.
  • Active 911: This emergency notification program was first implemented a few years ago, but has not been utilized since then. Mark will investigate to determine it’s current status.

  • Appreciation plaques were discussed for presentation to 3 individuals that have provided service and assistance to the Club and our activities: Carol Christenson, NWS meteorologist and SKYWARN trainer, Scott Goddard, CWC Sheriff, and John Bowen CWC Emergency Management Director. The Secretary will complete designs and submit to Tom KTØMMY who has generously offered to laser-engrave for the Club.
  • Everyone holding assets for the Club is requested to inventory their items into a simple list and forward to Lyle and the Board.
  • Discussed was the need to limit admission of Hamfest license exam applicants to 10:15 AM or 10:30 AM. Last year’s late entrants kept VE’s there until 1:30 with no passing exams returned.
    The Board Meeting was adjourned at 4:50 PM.

  • The President called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM with 32 members and guests present. The business meeting was delayed until after the guest presentation “Forestview High Altitude Balloon Class presentation” by teachers Jim Reed and Cory Olson
