Independence Day Fireworks...July 4, 2004

Brainerd Area Amateur Radio Club members again provide service in the interest of public safety.

Just a quick note to thank each of you who participated with us Sunday evening at the Brainerd High School Campus. You were several of an estimated 5,000 who showed up to see a spectacular fireworks demonstration.

Thanks to your efforts, we were able to cover the entire perimeter of the high school building, two sides of the middle school building, and all of the public seating areas. School district personnel covered the inside of the high school building and I was in touch with them on the district's two-way radio system.

All-in-all, things went very well with only one intrusion into the large fenced-in construction area in the back of the building by two people. We notified Bruce Becker, the week-end watch person, inside the building and he took care of the situation. Numerous persons 'scattered' many times when the wind changed directions and fireworks not yet burned out landed on the ground amongst them. Thankfully we didn't see any injuries.

Again our efforts were appreciated by the school district's director of buildings and grounds, Mr. Earl Wolleat, and the law enforcement center chief dispatcher, Ms. Pat Eyestone, who thanked the BAARC for the extra margin of safety' we provided for them.

Participating hams included: Jim Barry WØIRE, Terry May KIØFW, Sharon Duit KBØSQX, Jim Duit KBØTXT, George Swanson KCØBH, and John Luce WØJGY.

Thanks and 73's

John Luce WØJGY, BAARC Community Event Coordinator.
