The evening speaker was Mark Utter, one of the authors of the book Brainerd Bound  It is 226 pages of beautifully done photographs and stories about the Brainerd, MN, area.  It also tells stories about people, places, and things on the way from the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul to Brainerd.  In addition, it details the history from fur trading, then logging, then the railroads to the tourism industry we have today.

Mark's grandfather purchased a cabin on Gull Lake in 1922.   "The Brainerd area is a special place on this planet," he explained.  Some 30,000 photos were taken with just 500 used in the book.  The 18-month book effort is a collaboration between Mark Utter, Mark Rustad, and nationally known photographer Curtis Johnson.   To date, the book is in its second printing with 10,000 copies sold. The book was even printed at Bang Publishing in Brainerd.  Find out more at: http://www.brainerdbound.com
