Club Membership Meeting on Thursday, October 25, 2007

Over 100 people attended a benefit chili dinner and silent auction at Hunt Technologies to raise money for Tom WØQF.  Tom is fighting Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) and is about to undergo a bone marrow transplant. More details at: http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/thomasjones

(l-r) Paula WØHA, Jim WØYA, Steve KCØYTE, Fritz WØKO, and Mark WØMH.  Other BAARC Hams attending included: John WØJGY, John W3MQD, and Terry KIØFW.

Steve KCØYTE is running to replace Jim WØYA as Vice-President of the BAARC.  Steve is a relatively new Ham, but has a lot of enthusiasm and management experience.
The BAARC evening speaker was Don Porter, member of the Board of Directors of the Dakota Gasification Company.  The company is a part of Basin Electric, which is the second largest energy cooperative in the United States.  Basin has invested extensively in electricity production from coal, wind power, coal gasification, hydrogen energy (test plant), and wasted energy recovery.  Their plants are scattered across the Dakotas and Wyoming

Don gave a fascinating talk on the difficulties of generating and delivering electric power.

Basin Electric supplies energy to seven states and part of Canada.  They serve 2.5 million customers in Wyoming, Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Canada and the Dakotas.  Minnesota alone consumes 10,000 Megawatts of power.
