The
BAARC evening speaker was Don Porter, member of the Board of Directors
of the Dakota Gasification Company. The company is a part of Basin
Electric, which is the second largest energy cooperative in the United
States. Basin
has invested extensively in electricity
production from coal, wind power, coal
gasification, hydrogen energy (test plant),
and wasted energy recovery. Their plants
are scattered across the Dakotas and
Wyoming.
Don gave a fascinating
talk on the difficulties of generating and delivering electric power. |
|
Basin
Electric supplies energy to seven states and part of Canada. They
serve 2.5 million customers
in Wyoming, Iowa, Wisconsin,
Minnesota, Canada and the Dakotas.
Minnesota alone consumes 10,000 Megawatts of power.
