Brainerd Area Amateur Radio Club

Club Membership Meeting on Thursday, May 31, 2007

Thirty people attended the meeting, run by BAARC President Lyle KØLFV.

Al WØRC demonstrated APRS (Automatic Packet Reporting System) at the meetingHe explained the digital codes that GPS (Global Positioning System) receivers can send to a TNC (Terminal Node Controller), then to a transmitter on 144.390 MHz. The system allows a station to be tracked on a computer map. The BAARC recently purchased Precision Mapping 8.0 software and downloaded free PMAP 7.0 along with UI-View32 software to form a complete system.

Al said this system will be a great aid to a net control station when the Club is doing communications for community service events such as the Annual Tour of the Lakes Bike Ride.

John WØJGY brought a cake to celebrate the new Hams and upgraded licenses from the recent class and testing session.
Lyle KØLR and George KCØBH enjoying cake and coffee.
